Vertical Ridges Are Common

Nails often get dismissed as cosmetic, but they can reveal more than people think.

Changes in color, texture, thickness, or pattern sometimes reflect nothing more than aging or minor trauma.

In other cases, they may hint at nutritional gaps, circulation issues, or physical stress.

The most common lines people notice are vertical ridges running from the base of the nail to the tip.

These become more common with age and are often part of normal aging or dryness.

Horizontal Lines Deserve More Attention

Horizontal grooves are different. These are often called Beau’s lines, and they can appear when nail growth was temporarily disrupted by high fever, major stress, surgery, severe illness, injury, or nutritional strain.
