"Marissa," he said quietly. "You did well."

Mrs. Ellison's mouth fell open.

Marissa slowly opened her eyes.

The paramedic checked her pulse and belly while Cole stood.

Camille's voice cracked. "What is going on?"

"What's going on," he said, "is that Marissa Vale has been helping us investigate you for three weeks."

Camille took one step back.

Cole lifted a small evidence bag.

Inside was a tiny black recording device.

"We have audio from the study. The kitchen. The nursery. And the staircase hallway."

Camille's tears stopped instantly.

Mrs. Ellison slowly pulled away from her.

For the first time, no one was comforting Camille.

THE PLAN BEHIND THE PUSH

At the hospital, Marissa refused to sleep until the doctor confirmed her baby was safe.

The words came like mercy.

"Your baby's heartbeat is strong."

Detective Cole stood outside the room with Marissa's husband, Adrian Whitmore.

"My sister did this?" he whispered.

Cole looked at him carefully.

"Your sister didn't just push your wife. She has been planning to make Marissa look unstable for months."

"No. Camille said Marissa was paranoid. She said Marissa wanted to take me away from the family."

Inside were bank transfers, forged messages, and photos of medication Camille had tried to plant in Marissa's bedroom.

Adrian turned the pages with shaking hands.

Then he found the worst one.

A printed message Camille had sent to an unknown number.

After the baby is gone, he'll come back to me.

"She was never protecting me," he said.
