I showed up at my daughter's place for Sunday dinner and was shocked to see her serving with one arm in a sling

It was clear that she had been going through a lot.

Under the table, I took out my phone and sent a message to a number I hadn't used in a long time. "Come now. Bring the board members. And bring the police chief if you can," I typed. Then I made another call. "Dr. Smith, please be on standby," I said quietly.

Kyle raised an eyebrow. "Calling a doctor because Lily tripped?" Lily whispered, "I didn't trip." Kyle's smile disappeared. Vera put her wineglass down. "She got hysterical and fell. Kyle had to hold her back. A wife shouldn't mess with her husband's career,"

Vera said.

"What career?" I asked calmly. Kyle smiled again. "I'm getting promoted to vice president tomorrow. It's official," he said. I looked at Lily. Her eyes were full of tears.

What Kyle didn't know was that our family trust still owned 40% of the shares in the company he worked for. My late husband and I had saved that company from going bankrupt 25 years ago. Kyle thought my silence meant I was weak, but he was very wrong.

Lily stared at him. "I found some shady invoices," she said. The room fell silent again. Kyle's face turned red with anger. "You're just a crazy woman," he shouted at her.

As we waited, the tension in the room was palpable. Vera tried to make small talk, but it was clear that everyone was on edge. Half an hour later, the doorbell rang. Kyle opened the door, still wearing that smug smile.

But it vanished when he saw the board members of his company standing outside, along with the police chief.

The police chief walked in. "We've received some serious allegations," he said. The board members looked at Kyle sternly. "We're here to investigate the financial irregularities in the company," one of them said.

Kyle's face turned pale. Vera started to stutter. I stood up. "You thought you could get away with abusing my daughter and doing wrong in the company. You were wrong," I said.

The police immediately started to question Kyle about the shady invoices. The board members began to go through the company's financial records. Lily sat there, looking shocked but also relieved.

In the end, Kyle lost his promotion and his job. The police investigated the financial issues thoroughly. Vera was left speechless and humiliated. Lily finally found the courage to leave that toxic situation and start a new life.

She moved back in with me for a while, and we worked together to help her heal both physically and emotionally. She got a new job, made new friends, and slowly but surely, she regained her confidence.
