I showed up at my husband's workplace with a fancy gift basket and tickets to a luxury cruise. Instead, I walked into his engagement party with the female COO.

"Once the notice is served, Sarah will lose control by tomorrow," Mark said.

I watched the party lights through the office windows. "Serve it tonight," I said.

Mark asked if I wanted security at my house. I thought about all the times my husband had lied to me, all the anniversaries he had ignored while working late with Sarah.

"No," I said. "Let him come home and think everything's normal. I want him to be comfortable when his world falls apart."

The next morning, my husband came home with Sarah's perfume on his clothes. The smell hit me like a punch in the gut. He saw me sitting at the kitchen table, sipping coffee next to two packed suitcases-his.

"You froze the accounts," he shouted, his face red with anger.

"Explain the five million dollars transferred to Sarah's private consulting firm," I said calmly, sliding the bank statements across the table.

For two years, he had been sending company consulting fees to Sarah's firm. He had used part of that money to buy her the engagement ring and a beach house.

He stared at the statements, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You invaded my privacy," he said, his voice laced with accusation.

"You stole from a company I own," I replied, my voice steady.

He laughed, a bitter laugh. "You? You just have some old papers. Sarah runs the company. I'm the chief financial officer. The board listens to us."

Just then, the doorbell rang. Mark walked in with a process server and handed my husband a thick envelope. He read the first page twice, his eyes widening with shock.

"NOTICE OF CONTROLLING-SHARE TAKEOVER. BENEFICIAL OWNER: ME. OWNERSHIP: 75%."

Mark's face was calm. "It was filed with the state at 7:30 this morning," he said.

My husband's phone started ringing. It was Sarah. He answered on speaker.

"Our company is in chaos," Sarah shouted. "We've lost control."

My husband looked at me with hatred in his eyes. "You won't get away with this," he spat.

I stood up, my back straight. "I'm the one who owns this company. You're the one who won't get away with your lies and theft."

As the news spread through the company, the employees were in a state of shock. They had always seen my husband and Sarah as the power-couple running the place. Now, they were left scrambling, trying to figure out what would happen next.

The board of directors was called into an emergency meeting. They were initially skeptical, but once they saw the proper documentation of my ownership, they had no choice but to acknowledge the truth.

Sarah was furious. She had built her reputation and power within the company, and now it was all slipping away. She tried to rally the remaining loyal employees, but it was no use. The takeover was legal, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.

My husband, on the other hand, was in a state of panic. He had lost his job, his mistress, and his access to the money he had been stealing for years. He tried to beg for forgiveness, but I was done with his lies.

In the days that followed, I took full control of the company. I started making changes, getting rid of the unethical practices that had been going on under my husband's and Sarah's watch.

I sold the beach house and the luxury items he had bought her with stolen money.

It was a long and difficult process, but in the end, I emerged stronger. I had learned a hard lesson about trust and betrayal, but I was also free from the toxic relationship.

I started a new life, one where I was in control of my destiny, no longer the naive wife, but a powerful businesswoman.
