My husband was buttoning his pants when I walked in holding our baby's ultrasound - my best friend was hiding behind my maternity clothes.

A Shocking Discovery

I walked into the house, still clutching my daughter's ultrasound picture.
Then, I heard a thud from the upstairs bedroom.
I opened the door.
There was my husband, shirtless, buttoning his pants next to the unmade bed.
"You're home early," Garrick said.
He picked up a white shirt from the floor.
"I spilled coffee.
I was changing." But there was no coffee on the shirt.
And under the bench at the foot of the bed was a familiar champagne - lace camisole with a tiny blue charm.
I remembered Sienna showing it to me after her engagement dinner.
"Ethan paid a ridiculous amount for this.
I'm saving it for our honeymoon," she'd laughed.
Sienna was my best - friend of 12 years.
And she was hiding behind my maternity coats.
The closet door was barely open, but I saw her hand on my coat sleeve, the diamond on her finger, and smelled the perfume from our baby - shower planning lunch.
Garrick stepped in front of me and the closet.
I looked at him, his belt undone, hair messy.
Then I looked at the ultrasound.
That morning, our daughter had turned to the screen.
I could see the curve of her nose for the first time.
Garrick had said he was too busy to come.
Now I knew why.
Sienna didn't move behind the coats.
My voice shook, but Garrick smiled, thinking I was emotional about the baby.

The Secret Picture

I took a step towards the closet.
I burned to fling the door open.
I wanted Sienna to face me and Garrick to explain the lingerie under our bed.
Then I spotted Garrick's phone on the mattress.
Sienna had hers in the closet.
If I outed them, they'd delete messages and concoct a story.
My edge was their belief that I knew nothing.
"I feel light - headed.
Could you get me some water?" I said.
Relief washed over Garrick's face.
He headed for the bathroom.
I slipped my phone down by my hip and snapped a silent pic.
The camisole was under the bench, Garrick's shirt crumpled beside it, the rumpled bed in the background.
"I'm going to sit in the nursery," I told him.
"That's a good idea," he replied too fast.
I left without another look at the closet.
In the nursery, I sat by the unfinished crib.
My hands shook so hard the ultrasound tapped on the chair arm.
A minute later, the bedroom door closed.
Soft steps crossed the hall.
Then the side door opened and shut.
When I went back upstairs, the camisole was gone.
The bed was made.
Garrick's shirt was off the floor.
He was downstairs, running water in the kitchen like nothing had happened.
They thought they'd erased all evidence.
They didn't know about the picture.
They thought my silence meant they'd gotten away with it.

Uncovering the Truth

I locked the nursery door.
Then I opened our security app.
Sienna had her own emergency code.
I'd given it to her because I trusted her.
I thought she could enter my home if I ever needed help.
I checked the records.
Her code had opened my front door six times in just three months.
