He kept talking, but Mara had already hung up.

At the same time, her attorney sent a new message.

The emergency injunction had been approved.

Mara read it twice.

Then she looked back up at the office tower.

Five minutes had started.

Nolan still had no idea he was already losing.

The Share

When Nolan finally walked into Daphne's office, Mara was already seated across from him.

She slid an envelope over the table.

"Open it," she said.

Inside were the papers he had never expected to see.

Six months earlier, Mara had used her inheritance to buy a minority stake in his company.

It had been quiet.

Legal.

And fully documented.

Nolan read the shareholder agreement and went still.

"You bought shares?" he said.

"Yes," Mara said.

"And under that agreement, I can inspect records and attend meetings."

He stared at her like he was seeing a stranger.

"You wouldn't," he muttered.

Mara leaned back in her chair.

"You thought I would keep swallowing what you and Tessa were doing."

"This is just a power play," he said.

Mara shook her head.

"No. This is what happens when you decide humiliation is easier than honesty."

The Aftermath

By the time the police finished documenting Mara's injury. The hallway cameras. And the witness statements. Tessa was in handcuffs.

Nolan's company lawyers were already trying to understand how much damage the injunction would do.

It did enough.

Records were frozen.

Meetings were delayed.

Questions started coming from people Nolan had never expected to answer to.

Mara did not raise her voice once.

She did not need to.

The wreckage was already speaking for her.

That night. She sat alone at home with her phone on the table. Her hair still uneven around the edges.

Nolan texted twice.

Then called.

Then texted again.

Mara did not respond.

She already knew what the next conversation would be.

He would call it a misunderstanding.

He would call it stress.

He would call Tessa reckless and himself sorry.

Mara had heard enough excuses for one lifetime.

So when the phone lit up again, she looked at the screen, then back at her reflection.

Five minutes had turned into something much bigger.

And Nolan finally understood that the woman he had tried to humiliate had already bought the power to end him.
